I’m Erika Zehm, Director of Sales and Marketing for Zenobia Fragments but also a San Diego native. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the meeting and its return to San Diego, Zenobia Fragments, a San Diego based fragment library company, has put together the following tips and tricks to make the most out of your visit.
San Diego is a Uber and Lyft friendly city. If you Fly into terminal two exit the baggage claim area, use the main crosswalk and head towards the Transportation Plaza. Ridesharing pick-up is located in the second lane on the right. See signage for assistance. If you fly into terminal 1 Exit baggage claim via the escalators, walk across the Sky Bridge toward Ground Transportation and the parking lot, exit down the escalators toward the parking lot, and turn right to the Transportation Plaza. Use crosswalk to the third lane for pick-up area. See signage for assistance. If you don’t have the Uber or Lyft app already downloaded not it may be helpful to download and set up the app now.
Taxis: there is never a shortage of taxis at the San Diego airport. Typically, there is no need to call as taxis cycle through the airport. Simply follow the sings to the transportation plazas. This link will provide you with all the contact information for the taxi companies in https://www.san.org/To-From/Taxis.
Conference Overview/ Maximizing your time:
The Fragment Based Lead Discovery Conference is chalked full of talks, workshops and vendors. This year, Zenobia’s own Vicki Nienaber will be chairing a session so stop by and see her in person October 8th. You can find a draft of the agenda here.
Conferences are great opportunities to learn and connect but at the same time, we all recognize the things we leave behind at home and at work. We have all been there, working on the plane ride and in our hotel rooms after a full day of talks, workshops and sessions. We have come up with a few helpful hints to maximize your time.
Plan out your day: Review the agenda of the conference ahead of time and make a rough schedule of each day. This way you can easily see where you can fit in extra meetings, schedule a lunch date with a client or old friend, or even do a little site seeing.
Mix business with pleasure: Need to fit in a few meetings? Tired of meeting in the lobby of a hotel or at a coffee shop? Have your meeting at some place unique. The Coronado Ferry is a quick walk from the hotel and is about 30min round trip. This can be a fun option, enjoy the sights of San Diego bay and the city skyline while talking shop.
Fit in fun: Even if you just have a few minutes check out the local sights, sounds, and shops. Coronado is a historic place. Home to the famous Hotel Del, Naval Station San Diego and who can forget the beaches but of course heed the signs and steer clear from the beaches where the Navy Seals train or you may find yourself in “cold” water.
Things to do in Coronado:
The Ferry Landing: The Marriot is located just a short walk to The Ferry Landing. The Ferry Landing is a fun relaxing place to take a break. See local sights, enjoy the fresh air, and grab a bite to eat over looking the bay.
Hotel Del: The Hotel Del was built in February 1888 located about a 1.5 miles from the Marriot. If you are up for a little exercise this walk is worth it. Did you know that Liberace was discovered while playing piano at the Del? Take a walk around the property. You will find shopping, a candy shop, wine bar and beautiful old architecture.
Like the outdoors?: Bike and Kayak rentals are available to ride the “silver strand” on its dedicated bike path or paddle around Glorietta Bay. Bike rentals are available throughout Coronado including beach cruisers, electric bikes and carbon road bikes. Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals are also available through the Glorietta boathouse at Gloreitta park
Have a meetings to get in? Catching up with old friends? Tired of the same old meeting places. Take a ride on the Ferry. The Ferry can be a fun and unique place to have a meeting, while enjoy the sites on the bay. The cost is $4.75 one way and service from Coronado to San Diego starts at 9:30am and runs every hour leaving on the half hour. Ferry service from San Diego to Coronado starts a 9:00am and runs every hour leaving on the hour. The last Ferry leaves San Diego at 9:00pm and the last Ferry leaves Coronado leaves at 9:30pm.
